Devotion – Genesis 37:1-36
Key Verse: But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peaceably to him.
Joseph is a marvelous type of Christ in that his brothers handed him over to death because of envy.
Envy is not always so easy to spot. I may not find myself envying a particular person but certain qualities of life that they represent. Wanting another life to the point of discontent is a form of envy. The constant “grass is always greener,” condition of the heart finds its root in envy.
Heavenly Father, may I turn quickly when I am tempted to grumble. May I start my day with an awareness that You have created me to honor You in the place, time, and situation I find myself. May I never look with envy upon another or another’s life.
In Jesus name, amen.
