As I was preparing this week, something occurred to me; Philippians is almost a case study of the fruit of the spirit. I had an interesting examining The Fruit of the Spirit in Philippians. Although not strictly mentioned, the parallels are interesting. See what you think!
| Fruit of the Spirit | Philippians Expression |
|---|---|
| Love | Paul’s deep affection for the church (1:7–8); the call to “let each esteem others better than himself” (2:3). |
| Joy | “Rejoice in the Lord always” (4:4); “I rejoice and will rejoice” (1:18). |
| Peace | “The peace of God will guard your hearts” (4:7); “The God of peace will be with you” (4:9). |
| Patience | Paul’s endurance in imprisonment (1:12–18). |
| Kindness & Goodness | The Philippians’ partnership and generosity (4:15–18). |
| Faithfulness | “As you have always obeyed…” (2:12); Epaphroditus’ faithful service (2:25–30). |
| Gentleness | “Let your gentleness be known to all men” (4:5). |
| Self-control | “Work out your salvation… for it is God who works in you” (2:12–13)—yielding control to God’s Spirit. |
Walking by the Spirit, in the joy of the Lord, with the mind of Christ… may that be our story as it was Paul’s.
